What would you do if you found a million-dollar treasure?
You have the chance to, thanks to a man named Forrest Fenn who hid a treasure chest in the Rockies he said is worth millions. The legend of this treasure is nearly a decade old.
Life adventures are like thunderstorms. It gets dark, the wind blows, everyone runs for cover. A few people get wet, then it’s gone, until the next one. And the survivors are those with the biggest umbrella.”Forrest Fenn
Whoever finds the treasure gets to keep what is now estimated to be worth over $5 million in treasure to date. Forrest Fenn has said that he will reveal the treasure’s location when it has inflated to an estimated $10 million.
Forrest Fenn’s map is a 24-line poem filled with clues leading to his treasure. He claims that all potential treasure hunters need to find this treasure box are basic geographic knowledge, a map, and the poem containing nine clues.
Forrest Fenn’s poem:
As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.
Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put it below the home of Brown.
From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up you creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.
If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.
So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
Te answers I already know,
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.
So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.
If you decide to go treasure hunting, be warned that it can be dangerous; at least four people have died so far in the search.
